Hľadá sa partner do projektu v oblasti bezpečnosti potravín (FP7-BIO)
Small or medium-scale focused research collaborative project
Planned for submission
- to develop and implement gas phase treatments using plant-derived anti-fungal volatile oils as for post-harvest fruit protection against decay.
- Essential oils and their ingredients are considered as GRAS (generally regarded as safe) substances. Essential oils are biodegradable, less residual than the currently used synthetic chemicals, and environmentally benign. In addition, they can meet with the stringent standards of international organic growers' associations.
- Essential oils have previously not been applied commercially for the control of post harvest decay and thus can treat pathogens that have evolved resistance towards current treatments. Due to their high degree of volatility, essential oils can be used in cold storage.
- The technology was successfully demonstrated on fruits, such as mandarins, strawberries, raspberries, persimmons or peaches, for some of which currently no effective treatment exists. The gas phase application method provides a protective effect without causing undesirable side effects to fruit¡¦s original aroma, taste and appearance.
